What’s Included in Our Residential Solutions

Whether you’re looking to go fully grid-tied, add battery backup, or power a rural property, we offer complete turnkey solutions using the following steps:

1.   Initial estimate and panel layout.

• We perform an internet-based assessment to show the number of solar panels that can fit on the roof as well as provide a rough cost estimate
• It is best to have the customers annual electricity usage during this step so we can size the solar panel system accordingly.

2.   The customer receives the initial proposal and site meeting is arranged.

• During this site meeting we review the electrical service, location of roof obstacles and confirm roof measurements to ensure initial panel layout is achievable
• Any necessary changes to the proposal are made and sent to the customer for review

3.   The customer wants to move forward and take the next steps.

• IES gathers information and submits an “application to connect” to the local LDC(alectra, NPEI, NOTL hydro, Hydro one Etc.)
• This application confirms that there is capacity to connect a solar array in that area or that the area does not have capacity. If there is no capacity then the process stops
• When you get permission to move forward, the LDC highlights the necessary steps to connect, what the connection costs are and final steps.

4.   Apply for permits

• We return to site with a structural engineer to review the attic/roof structure to ensure the structure can hold the weight of the system. The engineers report and letter are essential to getting a building permit.
• IES submits a building permit application
• Once permit is received, installation is scheduled

5.   Installation

• IES typically takes 1 to 2 days to install a 10 kW system. This means installing the roof mounts, rail, all necessary wiring and conduits, and finally the inverter or inverters.
• Once the panels and inverters are in place, the electricians come and make final connections. The whole process can take up to 2 weeks

6.   Post-Installation

• We schedule ESA inspection and if necessary, a bi-directional meter swap with theLDC. (most are already installed)
• Once the LDC has updated the customers account to reflect a net-metered system, the savings commence
